Going out on Phuket Island
There is so much more to Phuket Island than just its stunning beaches, warm azure waters and clear blue skies. Some of the greatest fun you will have at this paradise island will happen once the sun calls it a day. The nightlife is in a class all its own.
Patong Beach Nightlife
This is Phuket Island's entertainment center. The heart of Patong's nightlife is Bangla Road, a half-kilometer stretch that is home to three kinds of bars: regular bars, go-go bars and beer bars. By night, the streets have only pedestrian foot traffic, as patrons hop from one bar to the next. This is a great starting point if you are not familiar with Phuket's happening nightlife.
For the people who prefer some foot tapping music to wine and women, two live bands paly each night at two Irish pubs - Scruffy Murphy's and Molly Malone's. Another popular spot to enjoy music is Tai Pan, a busy, low-lit bar just off Bangla road. Jazz? Head to the popular jazz spot - the Baan RIM PA restaurant.
Patong Beach is also home to western-type nightclubs where you can dance the night away.
Karon Beach Nightlife
If you prefer to enjoy the nightlife at a more sedate pace, head over to Karon Beach, which is comparatively quieter. All major night spots are is pretty near each other, and concentrated around Karon circle and Luang Pho road. Most of them are pretty similar, so if you want a bit more variety, you will have to head over to Patong, which is just over the hill. Alternatively, you may want to consider dinner and a cultural show with Thai music and dance. This is an especially great option for a family evening out.
Phuket City Nightlife
To escape the tourist scene, and get some local Thai action, Phuket city is the place to be. This is not the place to go for go-go bars or fancy establishments. Rather, several hostess and karaoke bars abound. Thai night clubs such as X-club and Planet host several live Thai bands which compete for your attention with loud, noisy music.
Keep in mind that little English is spoken at these establishments, so it will be well advised to be accompanied by someone who speaks some Thai. Another great option to consider is Phuket's spectacular cabaret shows, particularly the popular Simon's Cabaret and the Andaman Queen Cabaret.
In case you are done with all the beaches and the water sports and want to look up at some real Thai tradition, Phuket city is the place to be. Leaving the fancy bars the city offers local bars that have the music and beer served to the locals and in most of these places the use of English is minimal. You can also spot places western rock and Thai rock music. Thai discos also offer a unique site as the local bands strive to outperform each other. Male cabaret is another striking event that can catch your eye with hardly any masculine features seen and Simon's cabaret is the best in this genre.
There are also a host of discos that are constructed as per international standards and the Banana disco is the most popular and the Safari disco. All these add up to the night life of Phuket which is a great experience.
Kata Beach Nightlife
This is a great place to just kick off your shoes, pour yourself a drink, and and enjoy in a peaceful environment with a glass of beer or other drinks. With goof food and open places to sit and dine it is very popular with families and love birds. Also worth noting is gazing at the sun going down from the Reggae bar that over looks the Kata Noi.
Tropical Ramblings My recommendation for going out in Patong Beach would be Club Lime in the beach road.
Club Lime is a great addition to the Patong clubbing scene, found on Patong Beach Road right besides Rock City opposite the beach.
It can be easily found by the sign -- a huge slice of lime -- and its neon interior that lights the street below. And in the early morning hours, the booming, hypnotic sound would be a magnet even for the blind.
