Packing for your Phuket Island, Thailand holiday can be very easy once you know what to expect during your holiday. The first thing you must be certain to bring is your visa. Visitors from Sweden, South Korea and New Zealand do not need a visa, but everyone else does. Prior to planning your trip, you should check with your local consulate to find out what you need prior to your trip. If you booked your holiday through an agency, they should know what documents you need to get into the country.

If you are planning on renting an automobile during your holiday in Phuket Island, Thailand, make sure you get an international driver's license prior to the trip. An international driving license can usually be obtained when you obtain your passport. Most reputable auto leasing agents on the island will require an international driver's license. If you plan to drive an automobile or motorbike, you need an international driver's license.

Currency is the Thai Baht and there are conversion charts just about everywhere throughout the island. Traveler's checques and bank cards such as Visa and Mastercard are accepted in many places, and in most resort hotels.

The voltage in the electrical outlets is 220 volts. Depending upon where you are traveling from, you may need an adaptor on your electrical appliance. Once in Phuket Island, you will have to get an adapter for the Thai electrical socket which can be purchases inexpensively at any of the convenience stores.

You are only allowed to bring in 200 cigarettes and one litre of wine or spirits into the country upon your arrival. Wine, spirits and cigarettes are all available throughout the island. As you are packing for a tropical climate that is warm all year long, you should pack light clothes and beachware. If you are planning on staying at a beach resort, you can pretty much get away with wearing your swimming costume all day and shorts and sandals. Depending upon the length of your stay, you will want to pack one or two nice, casual dresses or slacks for going out. In most resort areas, the dress code is very casual and Phuket Island is no different.

You will want to be sure that you do not drink the tap water on the island. Tap water is not safe and most restaurants and hotels have bottled water. You must be careful if you get a drink from an outside vendor as many of them used crushed ice made from the tap water. You should also use some common sense when it comes to purchasing food from street vendors. Not everyone is hygienic, so use your head. Avoid foods that have been left in the sun to spoil.

Most of the people working in the tourism industry, which is the primary industry of Phuket Island, Thailand, speak English. Smiling and gesturing can be used for those who do not.

Packing for your Phuket Island, Thailand holiday should be relatively simple. Just make sure you leave room in your suitcase for the many wonderful souvenirs you will want to take home!
