Today I had a real nice day on Kata Beach, with a lot of sunshine. Even though there were some waves, swimming on Kata Beach was great. But the crown of the day was taken by a nice evening dinner at Mom Tri's Boathouse. Their restaurant overlooks the whole beach of Kata, giving a wonderful view of the sunset at Kata. View from Mom Tri's Boathouse in Kata BeachThis really would be the perfect place for a Kata Beach webcam, in similar fashion as the Marina Phuket Resort webcam for neighboring Karon Beach... Seemingly I am not the only one who likes an evening stroll along the dam of Bangwad reservoir in Kathu. This large lake (1 kilometer long, the dam alone is 800 meters) is just a hop over the mountain from Patong, and most people do not even know it is there. To get there just find Phuket Country Club Golf Course and drive through and all the way to the reservoir. From Jamie Monk: Today has seen it's fair share of dark clouds, but we did not see any rain. Hooray! Sure, it's gotta rain sometime in the "rainy season", but today was not that day. Late in the afternoon we headed to Bang Wad reservoir, Phuket's largest water supply, just a few minutes from our house. We like to take walks along the dam, or take a mat and have a little picnic by the reservoir. Links of Interest: Read more of this blog entry!
Patong Beach, especially in good and sunny weather, invites for a lot of activities. There is obviously sun-tanning and swimming, but you can also rent a jetski or go parasailing. Especially the last two options are really to be recommended right now, because for the first time that I can remember (and I have stayed here for a good ten years), prices for parasailing have dropped. While back in high season it was still around a thousand Baht, you can go now for THb 800 and as the sea off Patong and the beach are not as crowded, the boat can drive more straight and the landing can be much less precise -- you have a good 30 meters wide of beach to come down again, enough to calm at least my mind! Parasailing on Patong Beach in MayAs the picture shows, slightly more cloudy in Patong Beach than yesterday (see: Today's weather in Phuket Patong), but still good enough to do some watersports. Below some slightly less happy marine life that has invaded Patong Beach, normally the domain of us humans relaxing, a Pufferfish: literally a 'fish out of water'! Today we had beautiful weather here in Phuket Patong Beach, with a lot of sunshine. Like on most days I do not really get that much out of it, as I still have to earn my daily bread. And in the evening, the high tide washed up quite high on the beach, making walking difficult. But even that late in the afternoon, a good number of people sun tanning and lounging in the sand, so it was a good day to have been here in Patong Beach. Google Earth and Google Maps are great tools to explore locations of interest on Phuket Island and plan your holidays to Thailand. Is this bungalow REALLY on the beachfront? How far is the airport or the ferry port to Phi Phi REALLY away? Will it be possible to reach the famous nightlife of Soi Bangla in Patong without difficulty? All those questions can be answered by simply looking at the Phuket Overview Map, where all those locations are marked and giving access to even more information, pictures and articles by simply clicking on any map marker of interest. A complete list of Phuket hotels, bungalows, guest houses and resorts with individual Google map positions can be also viewed.

Today was another quiet evening stroll along Patong Beach, the weather rather melancholic and cloudy. While Patong beach had yesterday a good number of joggers and people walking along it, it was very quiet this evening. This year there also do not seem as much of the fantastic sunsets full of exploding colors I seem to remember from last year. Rather cloudy Patong Beach sunset in MayNormally I start walking not far from the Andaman Beach Suites, as there is a small street offering direct access to the beach. I then can either decide to walk in direction of Kalim, past Loma Park, or south in the direction of Soi Bangla and the Amari Phuket Resort, basically going along most of the three kilometer long Patong Bay. Phuket also seems to have quite localised weather systems, so quite often if it is raining in one part a short drive can take you somewhere where the sun is out. A good example is today, I hear that it is raining in Patong, while at Nai Harn Beach the sun is out. Labels: nai harn beach Read more of this blog entry!
Maybe a little bit less well-known than the great Karon Beach Webcam of the Marina Phuket Resort is the Kamala Beach webcam of Merlin Divers. The webcam broadcasts between 11:00 - 17:00 (GMT+7). Links of Interest: Labels: diving, kamala beach, webcam Read more of this blog entry!
This is often a wet month. This is a fairly nice time for kayaking trips. It’s a bit hot, but there aren’t many tourists around. One of the truly nice things about paddling during the rainy season is the visibility. When it stops raining, the visibility can be absolutely outstanding! Since there are so many groups of islands in the areas where we do our trips, this becomes a very rewarding part of your trip. It makes you take a deep breath and say "ahhhhh"! Prices come down on almost everything. Some of the most delicious fruits are in season including mangoes, durians, mangosteen and others. Many species of orchids are still in bloom in both saltwater and freshwater areas. Many migratory species of birds start moving north. Links of Interest: Read more of this blog entry!
