Every culture around the world has very specific forms of etiquette that may seem completely foreign to those who are not native to the area. Business etiquette in Phuket Island Thailand isn't terribly difficult to follow. The first thing you should understand as a businessman or woman in this area is that business suits are rarely needed. The atmosphere is much more casual than in other cultures for doing business and more casual attire is expected and accepted. Greetings are a little different for those that are considered westerners than those that are local. Thai natives will be greeted with a bow though most foreign businessmen will be greeted with a handshake.

While small talk and general conversation is a good idea when breaking the ice the Thai have a special reverence for their royals. Do not make the mistake of criticizing the royal family or you will risk seriously insulting those you are doing business with and risking the business deal. In fact, it is better to avoid the topics of politics and the royal family all together in the course of business etiquette in Phuket Island Thailand if at all possible to risk inadvertently saying something that may offend.

It is helpful to understand that there is a rather large Muslim population in and around Phuket Island Thailand. While the constraints are somewhat relaxed in this area the religious beliefs are still held dear by many of the residents. Though the dress code is casual a certain amount of modesty is still expected. This is more than simply business etiquette in Phuket Island Thailand but etiquette that should help you get through the social environment here as well.

The best rule of thumb perhaps is to watch what the locals do whenever possible and mimic their actions. If you follow the advice above and try to avoid dangerous territory you should do quite well. Local business leaders are largely accepting of minor faux pas in business etiquette in Phuket Island Thailand because they want the additional business. Do not rely on that leniency though and make the effort to learn the conduct that is expected.
