Elephant trekking in Phuket is a glorious union of man and beast in the jungle covered mountain side of the Karon Highlands. This is a jungle safari at it's best. The large graceful animal takes you along a well worn path, often in the footsteps of the rubber tappers runs, up and over ridges and through gullies.
The views on the west coast are of the vast Indian Ocean stretching out before you. On the east coast you have the picturesque Chalong Bay and glimpses of Phuket town.
Out to the east you can see the walls of Phi Phi Island, Maiton Island and Koh Lon. The views are quite exceptional.
There is no other animal like the Indian elephant (smaller ears that their African cousin)and it was immediately understood to be trainable and useful to man. The giants of the tropics are guided through the pathways while you sit on their backs. This is quite an up and down sort of ride even if it is at a slow pace but the ride gets you where you need to go.
