The Phuket Big Buddha on the 380 meter high mountain top between Chalong and Kata Beach is now free of scaffolding and making its impact apparent as Phuket's leading man-made tourist attraction. For the first time, especially on days when the sky is a brilliant Phuket blue, the huge white structure can be seen clearly from all over the south of the island, and the sea beyond.
Spectacular white jade covers the Big Buddha everywhere except around the lotus blossom on which the 45 meter tall structure sits.
The project covers over six hectares of forest land on the top of the mountain and includes the building of two Pangmarnvichai Buddha images. The bigger Buddha image is built with cement and will be 25.5 meter wide, 45 meter high and 1000 tons when complete.
